The Hatchery

The Hatchery has been in my family for as long as I can remember. I inherited it.... gosh, almost a hundred years ago from my greatest-aunt Fifi. We call her my greatest aunt because we've lost track of how many greats she was.

My family founded the Hatchery thousands of years ago. I grew up hearing stories about it from my Mom and my greatest-aunt. Apparently, magic was a lot more common in our world back then. Most people could use at least a little, and running into a talented wizard or sorcerer was a pretty normal occurrence. Nowadays, finding anyone able to perform the simplest of spells is something to write home about.Anyways, when the magic started dying, dragons felt the affects first and more strongly than the rest of us. The stories say that scholars figured out dragons are directly tied to the magical health of the world. We don't know - or if we did once it's been lost to time - if restoring the dragon population will restore the magic to the levels that it once was.The Hatchery was founded during the worst of what we now call the Flux. The magic had reached it's lowest point and dragons were few and far between. Some worried they were almost extinct. You'd think those scholars would've founded The Hatchery instead of my family, but turns out getting a dragon to trust you is hard work. Every one of their attempts failed. Instead, my greatest-uncle Corren founded the Hatchery almost by accident. What started with a chance encounter with a dragon hatchling on a hunting trip turned into my family's legacy. How that came about is a story for another time though.Generations later, and here I am, still tending to the hatchlings. Because the dragon population is so sparce, the Hatchery cares for little ones to allow their parents to travel father without worrying about their offspring. This way, they can roam farther while hunting. In my time here, I've had a hand in raising quite a few babies. I think the count is up to eighty-seven? There are currently four hatchlings and one young dragon here at the moment. I'll ask them if they'd like to be introduced to the wider world and if they say yes, provide an update.

The Solstice Court

The Solstice Court is my streaming team! Turns out, there are other realms out there who have or will experience the Flux. It sounds like there's some big connecting thread? I have to admit, despite being around dragons all day, this magic stuff is not my area of expertise. I definitley want to help though, so I'm going to dig through The Hatchery's archives to see what I can find.Big looming scary business aside, the other court members are pretty great! Despite - or maybe because of - the reasons that brought us together, we've become fast friends. I recommend you visit their websites to learn more about them!
